Dear Fly Tier,
Every year a group of fly tiers from as far away as Texas come to share and learn the craft of fly tying in Washington State. The event they attend is very much like a once a year Frontier Rendezvous were people come to learn and trade ideas.
The Washington State Council of the FFI is recruiting talented tiers willing to share their fly tying craft and techniques with folks like you at our 12th annual Fly Fishing Fair held at the Kittitas Valley Event Center in Ellensburg, WA, May 4th and 5th, 2018.
We would like to extend to you an invitation to demonstrate fly tying at the fair in 2018. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your abilities, network, and exchange information about the art of fly tying with fellow anglers and tying enthusiasts.
Enclosed is a registration form to complete and return by mail or email. You can also register online after January 15, 2018, visit: https://www.regonline.com/2018washingtonflyfishingfair. Regards to filling out the registration form, your contact information is extremely important in maintaining an accurate data base for future events. If you have any questions concerning registration on-line, feel free to contact Jim Maus, 253-732-5006.
The fly tyers schedule and seating arrangements for the Fly Fishing Fair will be finalized March 1st. If you have special seating requests or needs please get your registration in early to help us accommodate your request. To help us from an administrative perspective, please confirm by mail or email if you are, or are not coming, and especially if you are registering on line next year.
Current hotel options are listed on our web site http://wscffi.org/lodging/. If you mention the WA Fly Fishing Fair during registration, you will receive a discounted rate that is listed on the web site of hotels that will provide this gratuity. Do understand that the discount price is usually limited to a set amount of rooms. The early bird catches the worm.
On the evening prior to the event, Thursday, 3 May 2018, the Washington Council will host and pay for a dinner for all attending volunteers and vendors. That includes you, if you choose to participate in the demonstration fly tying.
On Friday 4 May 2018, at 6 PM there is a scheduled banquet and live auction. Sign up for the banquet can be accomplished on-line, at the Fly Fishing Fair website, after January 15, 2018.
Although it is not a requirement to be a member of the FFI, we encourage you to join the Fly Fishers International and support the betterment of the sport of fly fishing through Conservation, Restoration and Education. You may sign up or renew your FFI membership at: www.flyfishersinternational.org, or you may obtain a form and renew or sign up at the Fly Fishing Fair in May. FFI membership is optional for Fly Fishing Fair tyers, however we urge you to join us in supporting the FFI.
If you volunteer to demonstrate your fly tying craft, a representative from the Washington Council may ask you to contribute one or two of your flies from your session. One of the flies will be used with other participant flies from the event for a dinner/auction item. Your donation to the Council is greatly appreciated and helps pay for the expenses of the fair. If you choose to donate additional flies, please bring your flies and complete the donation form available from one of the auction representatives at the Fly Fishing Fair. Thanks in advance for you participation.
The success of this event depends on you. If you have any other questions, concerns, or suggestions please feel free to contact Chet Allison, or Vern Jeremica. (See contact information below)
Thank you in advance for your interest and involvement. The Washington Council looks forward to your participation and seeing you at our event.
