Reminder of Criteria for each award

WSCFFI FLY FISHER OF THE YEAR

WSCFFI FLY FISHER OF THE YEAR Criteria – An award presented annually to that individual or director who has demonstrated unusual devotion to the Council and through outstanding contributions has benefited the Washington State Council as a part of or international organization, the FFI.

-A minimum of five years membership and service to the FFI is required.
-Service should be voluntary. Time as a paid employee of the FFI should be given little consideration.
-The individual should not have previously won this award.
-This award should be for achievements that are Council wide in scope.
-Continuing service is of prime importance. Therefore, considerations generally should be weighed 70% for cumulative service and 30% for achievements in the past year.
-Devotion and contributions to the Council should be consistent with FFI objectives, and be superior to those of other candidates

 

WASHINGTON STATE COUNCIL FLY TYING HALL OF FAME AWARD

Washington State Council Fly Tying Hall of Fame AWARD Criteria – An award plaque presented annually to that person who has made significant contributions to the arts of fly tying.

-Must be a WSCFFI member.
-Can be an amateur or professional. (This is a difficult area. What an amateur does out of sheer love and enjoyment, a professional must do to make a living. Nevertheless, it is often the professional who, through their skills, offers more to the advancement of the art. Therefore, it will be necessary to make some judgment on intent. Obviously, if the primary intent is to teach and share knowledge, it should merit serious consideration.)
-Areas for judgment are: tying skill, creativity or innovation, and sharing knowledge by teaching or publication.
-Advancement of the arts need not be on a national scale, it can be at local or regional levels.
-Participation in the FFI is not a prerequisite, but any such activity as benefits the FFI should be highly regarded.
-Achievements and contributions should promote the advancement of the arts and qualification should be superior to other candidates.

 

THE JIMMY GREEN MEMORIAL FLYCASTING INSTRUCTORS AWARD

The Jimmy Green Memorial Flycasting Instructors Award Criteria– An award given by the Washington State Council in recognition of those individuals who have made significant contributions to the FFI casting certification program, have dedicated themselves to flycasting instruction and have shared their knowledge with others.

The award will be given annually, if warranted, to a person, a couple or club who have dedicated their lives to fly-casting instruction.
The nomination must be made by an FFI member.
The recipient must be a member of the WSCFFI.
The recipient must be an FFI Certified Instructor.
ADDITIONAL CRITERIA that may be considered in selecting recipients of this award

  1. The candidate should be known as a motivator of students.
    b. The candidate is known for sharing their knowledge of teaching with others.
    c. The candidate has made a significant, long-term contribution to the art of fly-casting instruction

 

WASHINGTON CONSERVATION AWARD

WASHINGTON CONSERVATION AWARD – This is an award or awards, to a group or organization that has made noteworthy and significant contributions to the conservation, protection, or restoration of our fishing resources. The following conditions will apply:

  1. The group or organization need not be affiliated with the FFI.
  2. Any national or local clubs, groups or organizations, as well as national or state agencies, may be considered for this award.
  3. This award could be based upon a single outstanding contribution or on a continuous series of significant efforts promoting fishery conservation in this state.
  4. The group or organization has not won the award previously.
  5. This award need not be an annual award, but will be bestowed when recognition is merited.

“Noteworthy and significant contributions” are those that have clearly brought a benefit or improvement to the waters, the fish, and the fishing in Washington State, either throughout the state or to any of its parts and were achieved by the group through the application of uncommon dedication and effort. These contributions would be consistent with the philosophy and policies of the FFI.

All nominations will be routed by the Council to the VP Conservation for evaluation of each nominee and the VP Conservation will make recommendations to the Council.

 

BILL MACKAY CONSERVATION AWARD

BILL MACKAY CONSERVATION AWARD – This is an award or awards given to an individual that has made noteworthy and significant contributions to the conservation, protection, or restoration of our fishing resources. The following conditions will apply:

  1. The individual need not be affiliated with the FFI.
  2. Any individual may be considered for this award.
  3. This award could be based upon a single outstanding contribution or on a continuous series of significant efforts promoting fishery conservation in this state.
  4. The individual has not won the award previously.
  5. This award need not be an annual award, but will be bestowed when recognition is merited.

“Noteworthy and significant contributions” are explained in the Washington Conservation Award.

 

CLUB EDUCATION AWARD

CLUB EDUCATION AWARD – An award or awards, to a FFI Club or other organization that has made extraordinary contributions to the education of fly fishers, including youth, and or education about our fisheries resources, including regulations. The criteria are as follows:

  1. The Club or organization need not be affiliated with the FFI.
  2. Eligible for this award would be national or local Clubs, groups or organizations and national or state departments or agencies.
  3. This award should be based upon a single outstanding contribution or on a continuous prominent effort promoting education of fly fishing.
  4. The club or organization should not have previously won the award.
  5. This award need not be an annual award, but would be given on an “as merited” basis.
  6. Extraordinary contributions are those that are superior and conspicuous in relation to others and consistent with the philosophies of the FFI.

 

PAT HERDT EDUCATION AWARD

INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION AWARD – An award or awards, to an individual that has made extraordinary contributions to the education of fly fishers, including youth, and or education about our fisheries resources, including regulations. The criteria are as follows:

  1. The individual need not be affiliated with the FFI.
  2. This award should be based upon a single outstanding contribution or on a continuous prominent effort promoting education of fly fishing.
  3. The individual should not have previously won the award.
  4. This award need not be an annual award, but would be given on an “as merited” basis.
  5. Extraordinary contributions are those that are superior and conspicuous in relation to others and consistent with the philosophies of the FFI.
